Street Project

Resident/ Parcel Owner,

Starting next week (5/5/2025), the 2025 Street and Utility Improvements for the City of Wykoff project is getting underway. To coordinate construction activities and proceed through this improvement in a deliberate and efficient manner, the Contractor has broken this project footprint into two distinct phases. Those phases include:

Phase I: Bartlett /Line Street
Phase II: Fire Hall Sewer

The Prime Contractor for this improvement is Griffin Construction, and they will be approaching this project in the order listed above starting with Phase I (Bartlett/ Line Street). As residents and property owners have probably noticed advance signage and survey staking was completed last week.

On Monday morning, the Contractor will start with the reclamation of the existing bituminous pavement (the process of grinding the existing pavement into aggregate) along Bartlett and Line Streets. Griffin Construction will then start installing temporary water mains and services within the project area affected by water main replacement. This temporary water system is a means of delivering you the same municipal water source that you are currently being provided by the City of Wykoff, only through temporary above ground piping. This allows for the underground mains to be replaced without prolonged disruption of your water service. Once the new mains have been installed, tested, and cleared for use, these temporary mains will be removed, and you will start utilizing the newly installed distribution system installed. While you are on these temporary mains, you may notice a slight drop in water pressure as these temporary mains are smaller in diameter than the old or new mains as well as difficulty getting “cold” water as these mains will be above ground and warmed by the sun. This system typically feeds your buildings/ homes backwards, meaning that water is supplied to you though your outside spicket. In order to accomplish this, your valve on the backside of your water meter will be shut so that water doesn’t back feed the mains during the construction activities. If you have a water softener, this needs to be bypassed as well so that damage is not done to that softener as we don’t want that appliance to be fed backwards. To get this system all set up and ready to work, a representative from Griffin will need access to your buildings utility room, and they will be coming around this Monday – Wednesday to set this system up. If you would like to set up a time to discuss this with them, please use the contact information below for Griffin’s staff.

Within Phase I the entirety of the roadway is being reconstructed. This means that following utility installations, the contractor will be sub-cutting the roadway, placing the design roadway aggregate section, pouring concrete curb and gutter, replacing driveway aprons, paving back the roadway surface with asphalt, and finally completing any turf restoration along the corridor. During this process, there will be times where access to your properties and driveways with a vehicle will be limited. Pending bad weather, it is the Contractors goal to provide access to your properties between the hours of 7 pm and 7 am.

When construction is complete this summer, the roadway surface will be left approximately 1 ½” low. By doing this, we allow the roadway to go through a full freeze thaw cycle, and we can address any issues that may arise before the final wear course pavement is placed in June 2026. We understand that reconstruction projects are not always the easiest process to deal with and appreciate the positive attitude that the community has shown the contractor, engineer and the City Staff. We apologize for any inconveniences that have/ will be endured throughout the construction process and we will do our best to address any issues as they may arise.

As the project progresses we will be delivering additional updates as well as posting these updates on the City of Wykoff Facebook page. In the meantime, if you have any specific questions regarding your property or the project in general, please feel free to reach out to the below project team members and we will provide any answers or updates we can.

Thank you.
